I am a huge home buddy a.k.a couch potato a.k.a consistent Netflix supporter. All my friends can attest to how much I like spending my weekends at home because of how many times I’ve ditched them to go out on a Saturday because I would rather snuggle up with my pillows and re-watch F.R.I.E.N.D.S, catch up on The Big Bang Theory and 2 Broke Girls or look for new movies to watch.

I feel confident in saying that I’ve pretty much mastered the art and skill of feeling content with staying at home on a good Friday night and an even crazier Saturday evening. There’s just something about home that makes me feel all warm and good inside. Don’t we all? But you’re not an ultimate home buddy just yet if you haven’t built a blanket fort to watch your movies in! I know, blanket forts sound childish but aren’t we all a child at heart? I know I am. Besides, I’m pretty sure your twenty year old self will approve of it if you decide to spruce it up! If you forgot what you should have in your possession to build the most amazing blanket fort in town, let me remind you.

Here’s what you’ll need: blankets and sheets, couch cushions and pillows, heavy books (or chairs), drinks and snacks (of course!), and a flashlight (or your phone’s flashlight). Easy, right? But those are just the basics! Why stop there? Amp up your blanket fort game with a little creativity (and possibly, at one point or another, some help from Pinterest) to make it IG worthy too (because in today’s world, “pics or it didn’t happen” is very real). It’s pretty easy to construct: position the heavy books or chairs in four corners, make it as wide and tall as you want, your ceiling and wall’s the limit. Then spread out your cushions and pillows on the floor within the boundaries of the chairs/books, and then drape your sheets or blankets over the chairs/books! SO. EASY. But as I said before, we like to bring it up a notch here. So I’ll probably add some fairy lights and tack up movie posters of the movies I’m going to watch. If I’m going to have friends over, I’ll even go the extra mile of printing out movie stubs.

For the outdoorsy ones, take your blanket fort building skills outside and camp in your backyard! Play with different structure shapes! Shape it like a house or a canopy or a tent, the possibilities are endless.

Of course, one should never ever forget the most basic essential of a blanket fort movie night — FOOD! Be sure to make yourself (and guests if you invited some over) the yummiest snacks you can ever think of. For me that would be: chips and salsa, mojos and garlic ranch dip, sandwiches or burgers, and smoothies or juices! If you’re feeling lazy though, you can always opt to order take outs but one should never even think of forgetting POPCORN. No movie night is ever complete without popcorn.

Don’t even try skipping out of popcorn, if you’re feeling guilty because you’re on a diet, try out SkinnyPop Popcorn. It comes in these flavors: original, sea salt and pepper, white cheddar, naturally sweet, jalapeno, and dusted chocolate. Yum without the guilt because it’s made of premium kernels, sunflower oil and the perfect amount of salt AND it doesn’t contain GMOs, gluten or preservatives.

So go on and make that blanket fort and have the best movie night! What are your movie night essentials? 🙂
